By lowering the pH, MicroEssentials promotes the formation of di-hydrogen orthophosphate, which plants prefer. This is achieved through two separate chemical reactions in the soil that release hydrogen ions: the conversion of ammonium nitrogen to nitrate and the oxidation of elemental sulfur to sulfuric acid. These reactions free up orthophosphates and keep them from attaching to soil particles. They also help maintain an acidic condition at the root surface that can increase efficiency of phosphate absorption.
